Athletics Competition Events Cancelled Thru March

March 12, 2020

Good afternoon San Jacinto Families,

District administration continues to be in regular communication with Riverside University Health Systems Public Health (RUHS-PH), as well as federal and state agencies, related to the rapidly changing COVID-19 novel coronavirus situation our state and nation is facing.

In accordance with the California State Governor and RUHS-PH, all Civic Center uses have been suspended until further notice, including extra-curricular activities, athletics, and events. This means, any nonessential activities outside of regularly scheduled school hours.

Additionally, under general guidance from public health, all San Jacinto USD athletic competition events have been postponed through the end of the month. Our Athletic Directors are in communication with our league partners and working on a plan for the month of April.  However, practices for in-season sports only will continue, but in a closed setting restricted to coaches and athletes.

We deeply respect the work and dedication our students, staff, and families give to our extra-curricular activities, athletics, and events. We sincerely apologize for having to modify, postpone, and in some cases, cancel these extra-curricular activities.

In Riverside County, officials have reported eight coronavirus cases, including five in the Coachella Valley. The source of three of these cases has not been determined, so it is considered a community spread. Community spread involves transmission of an illness for which the source of infection is unknown. It indicates that the virus was not contracted through relevant travel history or contact to a known case of COVID-19 and suggests that the virus is present in the community. Riverside University Health Systems, Public Health has issued several guidance toolkits as well as accurate, up-date-information. Please visit www.rivcoph.org/coronavirus to view the information.

Our top priority continues to be the health and safety of our students and staff, and we take this responsibility seriously. Families, thank you for your partnership during this community-wide concern. Our main goals are to focus on student learning and health while keeping you informed.
