Last spring Tanisha Burrus from UC Riverside came as a guest speaker to Mr. Jackson's Biomed Science classes and encouraged them to apply to UCR's Medical Leaders of Tomorrow summer program.
This program is for freshman that are enrolled in a medical/STEM academy or pathway like SJHS' Project Lead The Way (PLTW). Three of our students who met GPA requirements and had competitive recommendations from their teachers were accepted to attend.
The students stayed for one week in UCR dorms and experienced college life while participating in career exploration activities and completing science projects. The best part of the program is the cost: FREE! All housing, meals, and supplies were paid for by Kaiser Permanente and UCR School of Medicine.
